Social media behind further investment.

3 Oct

Digital continues to buck economic trends.

At the beginning of September we wrote a blog about how digital is bucking economic trends in terms of average salary levels, investment in innovation and growth in advertising spend.  And the start of October has brought more bright news about the impact that our industry is having on the UK’s economic landscape.

The number of marketers in the country has risen by nearly one hundred thousand in the past 4 years and digital is being cited as the driving force behind the increase. Twice as many new marketing jobs are now digitally focussed when compared to vacancies in 2009 - with social media highlighted as a particular jewel in the digital crown.  And that’s something we can attest to here at Propel – the number of social media roles on our books has definitely increased since this time last year.

What’s more, with 9 out of 10 marketing professionals using digital to enhance and strengthen their brand, it is no surprise that 60% of digital budgets have increased in the past year.

All of which is great news, not just for digital but for the economy in general. It shows a great deal of optimism from brands about the future. They are clearly looking at increasing their online presence - not just keeping hold of their current customers but chasing new ones as well. This would seem to fly in the face of broader fears about a double dip recession and is great news for the digital space and the talent who work in it.
